Public Housewives

You could be queen of the Castle
(or the Crown, or the Prince of Wales...)

We're looking for more women to run pubs. Currently, only 13% of the Greene King pub estate is operated by independent females and we'd really like to recruit some more. Come on girls, it's not just a job for the men, you have as much right to be in charge as they do.

You are your own woman – now prove it

"You could be running your own pub business, operating a pub through Greene King Pub Partners. In our experience, women can succeed in bringing something new to the pub trade and we're looking for more of them.

You'll need to combine people skills with an ability to plan and organise – and we think women are more than up to the task. So if you've got what it takes, we want a piece of it.

The impression people get when thinking about running a pub is that there has to be a man behind the bar and nothing could be further from the truth. We have some really successful women running our pubs and we need to change the perception and get more women who are business minded and great managers looking to this industry as a self employed business option. "

Caroline Hollings, Director of Recruitment and Training, Greene King Pub Partners.

The Kings Head at Great Cornard

Sisters are doing it for themselves

Maria and Natalie have joined forces to take on the Kings Head in Great Cornard. Maria was previously an operations manager for serviced office company Regus and decided to join the trade after her father had run successful pubs in the past.

She says “Having decided to take over the pub, I spoke to my sister Natalie about joining me. Not only does she have experience in the food service sector but she is a bubbly character who loves her pub sports. Our ethos is based on giving excellent customer service, we want customers to feel valued and welcomed in our pub”.
