Gloucestershire is situated at the northern edge of the south west region of Britain. It covers an area of 1,025 square miles including the largest Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the country. Essentially a rural county, it has been known since Roman times for farming, forestry and its association with the wool trade.
The Roman road, The Fosse Way, runs through the county north to south, taking travellers from Cirencester to Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh, whilst The Ermin Way crosses east to west from Cirencester to Ross on Wye.

The Chequers is located alongside the River Avon in a beautiful location in the Hanham Mills area of Bristol. It benefits from private riverfront moorings, an outside raised patio area and a large car park for over 60 cars. It attracts a mix of destination diners, boat owners, locals and walkers as the pub sits on the Avon valley woodlands walking route. The pub has a 60 cover restaurant in addition to an informal bar area which is used for dining and drinking. The raised garden has views over the river and patio area and is situated directly alongside the river. Greene King have a £100k investment planned for the site, with works to be completed and pub open for Easter 2012.
