Stage 3 starts on 23 February and travels from Stade de France in Paris to Twickenham, clocking up 410 km in the process. Lawrence will begin the challenge himself on Friday 12th  February in Rome, when he will depart on a gruelling 1,330 Km cycle up the West coast of Italy, and through to Paris where he will join the Greene King team for the third stage that takes him through to Twickenham. The Cycle Slam will then move on to Wales eventually covering all the Six Nations stadiums during the tournament.

Speaking about the challenge, marketing manager for Greene King IPA (the official beer of England Rugby), Keith Ironside said, “This is a huge opportunity to achieve a great deal of fundraising for these amazing charities.  The whole team have been training throughout all the cold weather and are really getting prepared for this fantastic event and getting behind Lawrence, Sport Relief and the Dallaglio Foundation.  We’re looking for sponsorship and if anyone would like to help they can donate on www.justgiving.com/team-greene-king.  Everything will be gratefully accepted and appreciated”.

Lawrence Dallaglio commented, “It’s brilliant to have the support of the team from Greene King.  It’s no doubt going to be hard work but the money we’ll raise will make a real and valuable difference to the charities we’re helping”.

Victoria calls for ration books, war time medals and memorabilia for its Remembrance Week

By Matt Furnell, 20/10/2009 1:52 pm

The Victoria pub in Thurston is holding a Remembrance week of events from the 2nd to 11th November in aid of Help the Heroes charity.  The pub is keen to see war time memorabilia from locals and customers as well as current serving military personnel and in response they get the chance of a two course meal for just £4.95, as near as the pub could get it to war time prices.

Speaking about the event, licensee David Taylor said, “We’re really looking forward to seeing what people turn up with.  We’re sure to see lots of medals but I can’t wait to see what other things people have saved from the war.  It will also be great to be able to welcome serving military personnel as part of the Remembrance Week”.

Food has been donated or heavily discounted by local suppliers to enable the pub to offer such a great deal and ensure more customers tip and buy raffle tickets, with all the proceeds going in the charity pot.  The week will culminate with a Remembrance Sunday lunch which anyone can enjoy for the same price as long as they bring war time memorabilia.

Adding, David said, “Everyone sacrificed so much in the war and are still doing so now throughout the world and I think bringing people together in common recognition of this and to talk about old times will be a great event for young and old alike, and raising money in the process is all the better”.

Speaking about the event, Craig Renforth, Regional Manager for Greene King, the owners of the pub, said, “David has created a week with a difference which certainly puts this great little pub at the centre of the community, I’m sure it will be a lot of fun, exactly what a pub should do for it’s local area”.

Proms In The Pub Raisies £5,000 For Childrens Hospice

By Matt Furnell, 02/10/2009 2:57 pm

The Cock Inn in Gamlingay hosted its very own Proms in the Pub this weekend and handed over a cheque of £5,000 to Milton’s Children’s Hospice as part of the event.  The total raised so far by the pub comes to £32,000 with all the money going to Milton Children’s Hospice.

A 26 foot square screen broadcast the Proms live from the Albert Hall to a crowd of 450 at the pub.  All dressed to thrill in British Regalia, the Proms saw the crowds singing and waving flags as if they were at the real thing.

Speaking about the event, licensees of the Greene King pub Martin and Vanessa Roberts said, “This is a great way to bring the community together for a fun event and raise lots of money for charity in the process.  We’re a community pub and we want all our customers to know when they visit the Cock Inn they have a warm welcome and a good time, the Proms in the Pub certainly proved that”.

Regional Manager for Greene King, Richard Cobb said, “Pubs are vital and licensees who are able to bring all age groups together to mix and get together are worth their weight in gold.  Martin and Vanessa are great licensees and run a pub which is central to the community and this just shows in the event that took place this weekend.  We’re always keen to meet people just like them for our pubs”.
