Greene King Pubs to Let - How to become a Licensee

Step by step guide to becoming a Greene King Licensee

Your new pub isn't far away...

1. Complete an online application form

Whether you've found the right pub or still searching, complete our online application form. If you are still searching for a pub we can use your details to help find the right pub for you by using our specialist data-matching software. This means that when we send you details of prospective pubs, you can be confident that those pubs will meet your individual requirements.

2. Meet us

Even if you have not found a pub yet, we like to meet all of our prospective Licensees. This is an ideal opportunity to meet with one of our Regional Managers to discuss your future with Greene King.

If you have already found a pub, be sure to visit and fully explore the pub. Make an appointment to see the current Licensee to discuss how the business operates. Ask lots of questions! If you think you've found the right pub we'll arrange a formal interview with the Regional Manager of the pub.

3. Prepare for your interview

It is essential to prepare for your interview. You will need to formalise your proposals for the pub by compiling a Business Plan. Use our online Business Plan template to help you.

You will also need to provide proof of your funding for the business at this interview. Without this we will not be able to proceed with your interview/ application. Proof of funding can be: a recent bank statement showing available funds or a Solicitor/ Bank letter stating availability of funds.

4. Attend interview/s

Your Business Plan will be discussed in detail with the Regional Manager to ensure your plans are realistic and appropriate. You will also need to provide your proof of funding.

If the Regional Manager is satisfied with your plans and funding, you will be invited to a second interview with an Operations Director.

5. Notification of your success

If you are the right person for the pub, you'll be notified of your success. You will be sent an Offer Letter and a copy of your Agreement with Greene King Pub Partners.

6. Proposal for Offer meeting

A Proposal for Offer meeting will be held with the Regional Manager, to ensure that you have a clear understanding of all the aspects of your Agreement, the Code of Practice and all other terms of trading.

7. Countdown to moving in..

The length of time between now and the day you move into the pub will vary according to individual circumstances, but it is likely to be 4 - 6 weeks. This will be an extremely busy period for you. We will work closely with you to ensure you have all the support, advice and guidance you'll require.
