Pub overview

Help us create a modern business in an historic building

The Cock is a former coaching inn and dates back to 1563. This historic landmark is located just off the market square at the heart of a busy shopping area. It has a great reputation for providing plenty of old world charm, friendly service and delicious food but we want to make it even better. We’re committed to a large investment to transform The Cock into a high street bar that reflects the affluent customer base and provides an exciting destination in the centre of town. Plans include redevelopment of all trading areas and the outside of the pub as well as creating a new courtyard garden to the rear.

We’re looking for candidates with drive, vision and passion to help us create a more premium business that the town can be proud of. You’ll need to provide excellent service standards alongside craft ales and a more appealing quality food menu.

We have already sketched out plans for this business, but if you get involved soon, you can help us shape our designs to create your dream business.

The pub has one long bar servery, so it’s easy to operate. There’s a small coffee station/prep kitchen at the rear with a good sized catering kitchen on the first floor. The business has been operated by Greene King’s managed division and so you can be assured that it has been well run. Interior styling is clean and pleasant but will be updated when we invest in the business for you. Our plans include the current courtyard which is underused and could be transformed to provide additional trading space, driving more income.

The town centre has a wealth of independent retailers and the historic core is also a place to find niche boutiques.
