Pub overview

Pubs like this do not come along every day!

The Granby is located in a strong position yards from Stevenage Lister Hospital, a 730 bed general hospital serving the East & North Herts NHS Trust. This is a great opportunity to run a site famous for food, functions, locals and sports as well as regular events. There is so much opportunity for growth here.

The site has one large bar, and has a natural split between the bar and the dining / function area. There is a large car park (35 cars), a beer garden and patio. Coupled with a good trade kitchen and a layout which lends itself to functions and dining, as well as one off events, this really is a one off opportunity. There is great potential to develop this site in the near future with the right candidate.

Legend has it that the site may well have been the final resting place of Captain Robert Redmill, originally from Stamford in Lincolnshire, who helmed HMS Polyphemus at Trafalgar in 1805. Captain Redmill lived in Saunders Green from 1807 until his death in 1819. The exact location of his grave at the town’s St Nicholas Church has been lost over the years, and Club 1805 – an organisation dedicated to conserving memorials to naval heroes of the Georgian era – wanted to track it down. They settled on the Granby – previously known as the Marquis of Granby, and named like many pubs in honour of the British commander in chief in the 18th century Seven Years’ War – as the site of Redmill’s home after piecing together hints from a wide variety of sources. As far as we know, he hasn't been spotted enjoying the selection of cask ale and extensive range on offer!

The trade area has the potential for development, which we would look at with the successful operators.
