The Dairy Maid pub in Aylesbury has received a £400,000 transformation with new independent operators Richard Bentley and Marcus Parton, both former pub business development managers within the hospitality sector.

Having 20 years experience each in the pub sector but on the other side of the bar they both decided it was time to run their own pub and start their own pub company, Riccus Pubs Limited.  Following a £400,000 investment by Greene King Pub Partners, the business partners invested a further £50,000 in fixtures and fittings for the pub.  They spent seven weeks during lockdown to get the pub ready to reopen in July 2021.

The pub has been changed inside and out.  Included in the investment is a large outdoor seating area soon to be covered with heated and lit gazebo, external decoration and signage and a fully renovated interior including a new bar, tiled and carpeted flooring, private dining room, seating with mini screens to watch sport and more open plan areas with contemporary furniture and lighting.  The pub still has an entertainment area for customers to join in pool and darts. Alongside the refurbishment the new landlords have introduced a food menu including Barrel & Stone pizzas, ten different pies and Sunday roasts. The modern bar offers an extensive range of drinks featuring draught dispense cocktails, draught beers and cask ales.

Speaking about their first pub venture as operators, Richard Bentley said, “We have a lot of pub experience from the other side of the fence working as business development managers and we thought it was time to run our own pub.  This is the first time we’ve actually been behind the bar so to speak and it’s fantastic.  We have a tied 5 year tenancy agreement for beers and ciders with Greene King Pub Partners but buy the majority of our untied products from them as their prices are competitive.

“Working with them from the start has been great and we have a close relationship with our business development manager who’s is available when we need him but also gives us the freedom to run the business how we want to”.

Business development manager for Greene King Pub Partners, Drew Milne said, “Working with Richard and Marcus is great.  They understand what makes a pub work and have been able to put their extensive experience into practice.  We are here to enable them to do that with the benefit of capital investment, training for their staff and formulated food menu options. The renovation and this partnership has completely changed the Dairy Maid pub and it is now somewhere the local community can be very proud of and look forward to visiting again”.

Greene King Pub Partners owns and operates 995 pubs with independent operators throughout England, Scotland and Wales.  It has a multi-million pound package of investments planned for its leased and tenanted pubs in the next year and is looking for pub operators who want the freedom to succeed within an established range of agreements.
