Brand new dining facilities and function room for Royal Oak pub after £70,000 barn conversion

The Royal Oak Pub in Potton has unveiled a brand-new function room following a £70,000 investment from pub owners Greene King Pub Partners and landlord Phil Brown.

The village local, which is the oldest pub in the historic town of Potton, has been operated by Phil for over 2 years. Well known to many locals in the town, Phil also used to run the nearby George & Dragon pub with Greene King Pub Partners.

The new facilities were created by restoring and converting the barn located on the site of the historic pub. In keeping with The Royal Oak and typical of barn conversions, this additional space features old wooden beams and large French doors which let the light in and look into the pub garden.

The barn conversion will be used for additional dining to compliment the busy restaurant area in the pub and will also be able to host small private functions and local events, ranging from birthday parties, to work dos and community initiatives.

With the launch of the barn, the pub is extending its food serving hours. It is therefore recruiting for a second chef to work alongside its existing chef, creating a new job in the town.

Speaking about the new function room, Phil said: “I am immensely proud of our new dining facilities and function room. It is a beautiful barn conversion in keeping with the rest of the pub and provides a social hub and event space for the community. Whether you’re a local or from further afield, our  barn is open to all so be sure to book it for your next Sunday Roast or family event!”

Business Development Manager for Greene King Pub Partners, Chris Cocker, said: “Phil is a long-standing partner of ours in the area and knows what the people of Potton want from their local pub. It’s been a real privilege to work with him and give the community of Potton the extra space they deserve for pub dining, local events and private functions.”
